Director of one of the finest ever British big bands as well as a series of superlative quartets. teacher and guide; explorer and perennial catalyst for new music-making; a truly great original.
Mike Osborne - Born Hereford 1941. Graduate of Guildhall School of Music (clarinet). Top alto 1972 Melody Maker poll. Member of Mike Westbrook band of '62 to '72. Co-leader of groups with John Surman. Regular member of the Chris McGregor Brotherhood of Breath, and John Warren's big band; has also worked with Mike Gibbs, Humphrey Lyttleton, and Alan Skidmore bands. Since 1970 leader of one of the most dynamic trios in Europe and associate with Stan Tracey on a number of important New Music explorations. A constantly questing original improvisor.
